So it’s no surprise who my favorite band is.
Sugarland all the way. Can barely explain how much I am in love with this duo. And their band members. ;)
Well this tour, my friend Meghan and I have been going a little crazy with their concerts. We originally planned to just attend the Niagara Falls show at the casino in April. A spur-of-the-moment decision landed us at their second show of the tour in Youngstown, OH on April 6th for our first Sugarpit experience.
That did it.
We’re hooked on the sugarpit, and even more obsessed with Sugarland than we previously were.
First I must tell you how amazing the Sugarpit is. Being so close that you can tell that Jennifer Nettles isn’t wearing any nail polish… and that Kristian Bush has ripped his pants… it’s truly and simply Amazing. In a nutshell, experiencing all the action less than a foot from the stage is almost unexplainable.

Now I must tell you that at our second concert of the tour (Niagara Falls), we MET Kristian Bush. Let me start with this: The venue was awful. At least in our eyes. Everyone wanted to sit. SIX i repeat SIX of us out of 1,400 wanted to stand. We obviously got yelled at by people around us. But things worked out, we moved over to the side and everyone was happy. (Plus about three songs from the end of the concert security roped off the first 3 rows and created a mini sugarpit). ANYWAY back to meeting Kristian Bush. We had signs that said “All we wanna do-oo-oo-oo-oo is HUG you” and “Dreams come true… can we meet you?” Well….. after Kristian was coming back from the guitar-giveaway, he noticed our signs. He said, “What do your signs say?! read them, and said “HI! Nice to meet you!” and gave each of us a hug. Thanks to one of our new friends we met (and NO thanks to the no camera policy of the venue) she snuck a photo and we have memories for a lifetime, that my future children, and children’s children, and children’s children’s children…. are sure to hear about for their entire lives. (It’ll be the “Oh no, Grandma’s going to tell us about how she hugged Kristian Bush again…. RUN!!!”) I don’t care. Best day of my life.
Soooo NOW, we’ve decided to go to Detroit for their concert there in August. Tickets go on sale on FRIDAY! However, we’ve put in to win meet-and-greet for Cincinnati the day before (which we don’t have tickets to, and you don’t find out if you get them until 48 hours prior to the concert). So if we do happen to win those meet and greets, there will be a second spontaneous roadtrip associated with spontaneous ticket buying and a speeding Focus with two screaming 20-something year olds driving down the 90.
STAY tuned. :)
our signs said “all we wanna do-oo-oo-oo-oo is get a hug from you!” Kristian passed us on the way back from the guitar giveaway, read it, and said “Hi! nice to meet you!” and gave us each a hug. Best. night. ever. 4/11/12
Jennifer Nettles (@JenniferNettles)
“The concept of “Duets” is so fresh because its mentoring is active and participatory. Most of my greatest learning was from singing and playing with other performers throughout my life and career. To have had the opportunity to perform with an established artist would have been so incredible when I was up and coming.”
Jennifer Nettles, lead vocalist for international super-duo Sugarland, has become one of the most popular singer-songwriters in music today. Sugarland has sold over 15 million records, achieved eight No. 1 singles and have headlined multiple nationwide tours. Jennifer has won five ASCAP awards for her songwriting abilities and in 2008, she received a Grammy Award, ACM Award and CMA Award for penning the No. 1 hit “Stay”. She has been seen all over the media spectrum with performances on Oprah, The Kennedy Center Honors, CNN Heroes and most recently performing with Lady Gaga on the ‘Grammy Nominations Live’ concert special.
